Ottacker by platypus12 Ottacker by platypus12
For Tenalin of :iconparalell-earths: and for the #Age-of-Avians Project.

Ottackers are social ambush hunters that rely on large numbers to take down large prey, so they live in leaderless packs consisting of at least four of six. Whenever an animal comes across an Ottacker pack's lake to drink, the pack will lunge from the water and grab the quarry by the limbs and drag it to its watery doom. In spite of being tenacious, formidable predators, Ottackers only attack animals that is strong enough to take down and if the quarry proves to be too powerful, the pack will waste no time retreating.

Despite their agressive predatory status, they rarely attack sentients. In fact, they can tend to act very friendly and playful towards sentients.

Awesome future otter species =D I really could see that appearing in my future world as well ^___^

The Ottacker jumping out of the water launching for the prey's throat kind of reminds me of a scene from The Angry Beavers in which Dagget (The dark brown pointy nosed beaver) launches towards a nature show host screaming "Throooaaaaaat"

I figured since otters today are very social, why not make them evolve into social pack hunters?

Otters are highly social animals, I wouldn't expect them to evolve much seeing as they are quite successful hunters already.
Most of the aquatic reptiles have taken to the sea on Tanalin. Also keep in mind Tanalin is not like Age of avians. New niches are formed and replaced in this world, leaving room for new hunting and foraging techniques never seen before.

that's fine :) I do like the idea of them taking over the lakes and rivers though now that the reptiles are out at sea
