Penguins can show quite some marsupial-like characteristics. They live in colonies, most species live in Australia, and their brood pouch -which they use to shelter eggs and chicks- is the closest thing to a kangaroo pouch. What bird could be better pre-adapted to fill the niche of macropods. The macropenguin is roughly the size of a wallaby comes equipped with a modified brood pouch to carry its egg, whilst it hops about through the grasslands.
