Future Secretarybird by platypus12 Future Secretarybird by platypus12
For the #Age-of-Avians project.
This bird is the descendent of the Secretarybird. It fills the niches of cheetahs. These futuristic Secretarybirds hide in tall grass stalking their prey and then chase after their prey at a speed similar to that of cheetahs. Females hunt alone while males hunt in packs of 3 or 4 that consist of their brothers.

The males have a black movable crest that can be raised or lowered, similarly to modern peacock tail feathers. These crests are used to signal pack members. Females however, lack the head crest as they hunt alone.

I'm a little miffed that all the cool giant birds barely, but successfully skipped over my lifetime.
They go extinct a little bit of time before I am born, but come back later :(

Other than that, I really like his design!
He's cute :3
but he can't fly );

How big is he?

Is it ok if it can still fly yet spend most of its time on the ground chasing prey?

This species can be about 6 feet tall. And yeah, many of the predatory birds in this project have become land predators. ^^;

I made one of these. It still retained its larger feathers on its arm for sexual display and had a hunting shift between males & females. I'll try to upload it. =D

They seem to act a little like Raptors use to.
