Flying Lemur by platypus12 Flying Lemur by platypus12
For the #Age-of-Avians Project.

This creature is loosely based off of Momo from "Avatar: The Last Airbender." This lemur's front limbs have evolved into bat-like wings which are used for flying. Its bones which have become hollow like those of bats aid their flight. Since their front paws have become almost entirely useless for manipulating, this lemur relies almost entirely on its prehensile hind paws which can grasp virtually anything with ease. The Flying Lemur will even rely on its prehensile tail when both hind paws are occupied.

These lemurs have colonized almost every continent along with several small island including Struthioguin Island. They're omnivorous and mainly eat fruits, nuts and any animal they can catch that is no bigger than the themselves.

And what do you think of the idea of this lemur using its hind paws and tail as manipulators?

Let's hope that in the Age of Avians, it's legal to have a lemur for a pet. :giggle:

Very nice, I do suppose that lemurs could go this way, but you must remember that during the ice age which is to come in some thousands of years, the Earth will become colder and drier making forests less abundant than they are now.

The wings may be a little larger to help it fly, rather than glide.

Have you checked out some of the main inhabitants of this island? Here's an example. [link]

Well the island that this lemur inhabits is kind of like a rainforest since it has moved further away from the southern polar region.

Areas that are not affected by the glaciers in the immediate area will suffer drought and cold aswell as those which are.

So what kind of environment do you suppose is more likely for this island?

The island is fine, I was just saying that during those ice ages the continents would have either been cold and snowwy or very dry and cold, which is not the best environment for a jungle going mammal. Meaning that it could have died out during the Ice Age.

But I am just saying not trying to put down the idea.

So the island would pretty much be a cold dry jungle?

The island after 50 million years from now would be around the climate of the far South of South America. Except it might be hotter and more lush from the antarctic ice that melted when Antarctica moved North.

So then I guess it wouldn't really be so dry and cold.

I think that we all should decide to focus on one part of the world in this project. Maybe 3 people could work on oe region of a continent or a whole continent and they could communicate together to make a more believable ecosystem. Then, others could share ideas with continents that are near eachother as species will probably migrate to other continents, you know?

I figured it would be useful since their front paws would be useless for manipulating since the fingers have become webbed with the skin that makes the wing membrane. So that would leave this lemur with having to rely on its hind paws, and sometimes its tail if both hind paws are occupied.
